The White Bear Lake (WBL) Lions Club is continuing another project for the community and this one involves all the public and private school third grade students in our community. The Club provides a dictionary for each third grader. A group of principals and third grade teachers have chosen the dictionary version they thought most appropriate for third-grade students.
The WBL Lions have purchased these books and have presented them to the third-grade students in all the public and private schools in the White Bear School District. The dictionaries will become the property of the students, theirs to own and take with them. The Lions Club have made this an annual project for the last 21 years and every year present each of the third-grade students with a brand-new dictionary of their own.
The Club will donate about 720 Dictionaries this year and over the last 21 years we have donated to 3rd graders about 14,000 Dictionaries. The use of a Dictionary is one of the skills taught in the third grade and it is a skill, even in this age of electronics, most of us still need and use.
In February, the White Bear Lions will also be providing a Thesaurus for each fifth-grade student in both public and private schools in the White Bear Lake Area School District.
