Organization and History:

The White Bear Lake Food Shelf was originally formed in 1977 at St Pius Church in White Bear Lake.

After a few years, the food shelf moved to White Bear Lake fire station #2.

Again after a few years, the food shelf moved to Sunrise Park Junior High School where the School District donated space.

In 1992 the food shelf moved to a temporary building (an old classroom) that was moved to a site just North of the Public Works complex.

In the year 2000 this building was replaced with a new one built with funds donated by the community of White Bear Lake, the White Bear Lions club, Lions Internationaland Ramsey County.

The Food Shelf is managed by a President, Executive Director, Office Manager and a board of Directors consisting of 15 members. The Books are audited by a local auditing firm.

The heart of the food shelf’s success is the pool of over 50 volunteers that take in, stock and distribute the food. Without these volunteers there could not be a Food Shelf.

Regular donations by the community organizations and an annual fund drive raises the funds needed for the operation and cash certificates for perishable items.
